Privacy Policy
Effective 29 October 2026.
Likelist helps you remember and share what the people you care about like. Privacy is the point of the app: your likes are shared only with the people you choose. This policy explains how we handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Likelist is run by Likelist, Adelaide, South Australia ("we", "us").
What we collect
- Account details: your email address (to send sign-in codes), your first name, and your profile photo if you add one.
- What you add: likes, categories, notes, ideas, plans, photos and short videos, and the people and circles you create, including details you enter about them such as a name, relationship or birthday.
- Your area (optional): a suburb and postcode, and a map position rounded to about 1 kilometre. Never your street address, and never your location in the background.
- Safety records: reports you make, moderation decisions about content you post, and a log of actions taken by Likelist admins.
- Basic technical information needed to run the app, such as sign-in sessions and error reports.
We don't collect your contacts, track you across other apps or websites, or use advertising identifiers.
How we use it
- To run the app: show your likes to the people you share them with, remind you of birthdays and plans, and suggest ideas (Liki) and local events and places that match likes.
- To keep Likelist safe: check text and photos for offensive or adult content, handle reports, and act on rule breaches.
- To contact you about your account or important changes.
Who can see what
- Your own likes: only the people and circles you choose for each one. "Only me" means only you.
- Notes you keep about someone: only you. They are never shown to that person, even if you share other things with them.
- Ideas: only you.
- Your area: only you.
- Likelist admins can see content that is shared, reported, or waiting for a safety check, so they can moderate it. Admins cannot see private notes or ideas. Every admin action is logged.
Sponsored suggestions
Some suggestions from Liki may be sponsored by local businesses. They are always labelled. They are matched on your phone using likes people chose to share, never private notes, and we never give your personal information to sponsors.
Services that help run Likelist
We use trusted providers to run the app. Some are outside Australia, so your information may be stored or processed overseas, with safeguards in place:
- Supabase stores your account and content (database and files in Sydney, Australia).
- Expo delivers the app and its updates (United States).
- Sightengine checks uploaded photos and videos for nudity, hate symbols and violence (France, European Union). Photos are sent only for checking.
- Unsplash provides photo search. Only the words you search for are sent (Canada and United States).
- OpenStreetMap, Wikimedia Commons, Ticketmaster and Eventfinda provide places, photos and events. We don't send them your personal information.
We don't sell personal information.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete something, it's removed from the app straight away and from backups within 30 days. Safety records may be kept longer where needed to prevent harm or meet legal obligations.
Your choices
- See and correct: you can view and edit everything you've added in the app.
- Delete your account: Settings > Delete my account removes your account, photos and everything you created. This can't be undone.
- Location: optional, and you can change or remove it in Settings at any time.
- Liki and sponsored suggestions: can be switched off in Settings.
Children
You need to be at least 13 to have your own Likelist account, and under 18s need a parent's or guardian's permission. Parents can add younger children as profiles they manage. See our Child Safety page.
Security
Information is sent over encrypted connections. Access is controlled by strict rules in the database, photos are private links that expire, and admin access is limited and logged. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a device lock and keep your email account safe.
Questions and complaints
Email thelikelistapp@gmail.com. We aim to reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Changes
If we change this policy in an important way, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
